Once again, I sing
The songs that are the glory of past
And the melody of present.
Once again I read
These “mere” scripts–
The experiences of yesterday
Which are the stories of today.
They speak vividly
And air respledently
The glory of victory
And the shame of defeat
Of mankind, in its quest
Of reason for all
That makes this mighties’
Universe the way ’tis.
Yesterday, I was unaware
Of such pride of achievement;
Of such determined defiance
To failure;
Such perpetual hunger for
Knowledge that those before me
Pushed on to its limits.
Today, I speak of it as if
It were my own strif’.
Not only my race’ past
But also my present, my future.
If you asked me then,
I would have said–
“What insanity I know not
Was behind their vexing desire
To dig out what was never there”
Now however,
I can see the sanctity
Of minds that aren’t yet begone,
Only lost for a while
In the hysteria their progress created.
Lost in the hysteria thy are–
—I sometimes think–
Willingly to emerge victorious
And bring out the principles
That underly another element of nature.
Today, I am on a similar mission–
Part of an intellectual plan, non-classical
To unfold the scripts of nature
And in process, write our own
That would speak vividly
And air resplendently
The glory of victory
And the shame of defeat
Of ours, in the quest
Of reason for all that makes this mighties’
Universe the way ’tis.
Today, I am part
Of another quest
Of the tools
That shall enable
The Gods among us,
To shape the universe so as
‘ Not only sustains
Mankind as it does in the present
But also nurture it
To the peak of existence
And unflur its flag
Representing the ultima’ victory
On the mast
Of courage, determination and defiance.
Upon the soil of secrets of nature.
This music of victory
Would not announce the silence of end.
It would infact be
The declaration of
A new mission,
A mission which again
Would fascinate the generations-to-come
Who would take pride
Just as we do now
And then sing the song
Of the glory of victory
And the shame of defeat
Of theirs, in the quest
Of reason for all that makes this mighties’
Universe the way ’tis.
